Year 1 have had the most wonderful English week. We were lucky enough to begin the week with gifts. We received a whole school book called “Zeraffa Giraffa” by Dianne Hofmeyr and each of us got a bespoke bookmark (designed by Mr Wareing!) to take home and remember our book of the week.
At 14:30 on Tuesday the whole school had a Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R) Time. We all took a 15 min break wherever we were to read, it was such a treat. Even the teachers got comfy and cosy with a book!
Thursday was our World Book Day and we all dressed up as our favourite book characters and had a parade in the playground to see everyone’s costumes. Year 1 focused our activities on the book called ‘The Day The Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt. We spent some time in each classroom joining in with different activities, thinking about the text. We had a lot of fun!
Throughout the week, we joined in with some Scholastic book events online. We met some different authors and heard about their books. The week ended with an amazing Reading Assembly from 1B, they did such a great job!
Overall, a very enjoyable week for Year 1!
