Application Process

Admission to The Pointer School is by a family meeting with the Head or a member of the Senior Team.  Places are offered on a first-come first-served basis and we do not have any deadlines for applications.  Your child can start in the Nursery in the term after their 3rd birthday. If you are applying for a Reception place, your child can start in the September after their 4th birthday. Please note that applicants for spaces in Years 1 to 6 will be asked to submit their current school report, take an assessment and attend a taster day at Pointers.

Before the interview, the application form should be sent to the school, together with the registration fee of £100. Please note the application fee is not refundable and that the acceptance of an application does not constitute an offer of a place. Parents will receive a written offer of a place in respect of their child subsequent to a satisfactory family meeting and diagnostic test (if applicable). In order to secure your place a deposit of £1000 is required.

The Pointer School may contact the child’s previous school (with parental agreement) in order to discuss the candidate’s progress and to confirm all financial matters (if applicable) have been satisfactorily resolved. Parents must disclose to the Head before admission any feature of the child’s personality, physical and mental health that might affect his/her fitness for education and membership of the school. This includes disclosing to the Head details of any special educational needs and learning difficulties. Failure to do this will result in the withdrawal of the offer of a place.

Family Meeting

Family Meeting

The meeting is a chance for you as parents and the Headteacher to see if we are educationally aligned. We appreciate choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent and it is vital that you feel like this is the right school for your child. You will have the opportunity to ask the Head anything about the school and tell us about your family and your hopes for your child's future both at this school and beyond.

The parent meeting typically lasts 30-45 minutes. We ask that both parents attend in person along with their child (virtual attendance is also an option). We completely understand that children may feel nervous in an unfamiliar environment, and although the Head would love to talk to your child, there is no pressure!

You will also have the chance to tour the school and meet a range of teachers in the school.

When to apply?

We take applications throughout the year. Most of our pupils join in the Nursery with limited places available in Reception. We recommend applying at least 10 months in advance for a place.

Occasionally, places become available in other parts of the school. Applications for places outside of Nursery and Reception are considered alongside school reports, an assessment and a taster day at the school.
