Location: Pointers - Room 11
Join us in the spring term at Inkhead creative writing clubs to build your child’s confidence and writing fluidity. Let them discover the joy of creating their own stories, crafting poems and letting their imaginations lose on the page. This term we’ll be focusing on techniques that develop the essential writer’s principle of “showing not telling” in our stories and poems. We’ll be looking at using the five senses in our descriptions, discussing how a character might behave to portray certain emotions, and practicing building imagery through metaphors and similes. The class will be built around focused technique development exercises, storytelling and improvisation games, examples from literature, and working on child-led projects with 1-2-1 feedback from the experienced writer leading the class. We will also run regular sharing sessions in the style of a traditional writing workshop, where children will practice essential skills in giving verbal feedback on their peers' work, and reading their own writing to the group with confidence.
